A Unique opportunity to acquire a purpose built, 4 year old trading boat complete with everything you need to start a canal business for only £45K!
Every fancied a traditional working boat, with all the potential for carrying and trading along the canal but without all the expensive problems that are attached with historic boat and traditional engine ownership...?
We have the answer. Complete with modern solutions to back cabin living –with a space that allows decent accommodation.
Purpose built as a carrying craft in 2012 by Stuart Hodges, William or “The Coal Boat” as it has been known worked the lower part of the Kennet & Avon canal supplying coal, diesel and calor gas to boaters. A regular delivery round was established in an area not currently serviced by any other craft and William travelled backwards and forwards trading everywhere she went.
William has been built with a cabin and hold proportioned the same as historic carrying craft. Fitted with a modern, powerful, Barrus shire engine tucked under the rear deck – William benefits from easy maintenance and a single lever control, a sensible choice for modern day freight operation. The Engine has covered just over 5000 hours and also generates hot water.
A weed hatch is fitted over the prop to ease propeller clearing.
Another upside to having the engine tucked away under the steerer’s feet is the gained accommodation space in the cabin. This allows a day cabin with seating area, which leads into a galley with built in stove and oven, sink and drainer and space for a domestic fridge. Opening side doors on both sides of the boat allow both light and air into the cabin and create an illusion of space (also very good for spotting customers whilst tied up along the towpath).
There is a bathroom/wet room with large walk in shower and cassette toilet. Forward of the bathroom is the bedroom which can either have a permanent double bed which can be left made up, or (as is pictured) a further lounge area with good seating that converts to a bed at night when required. A set of double doors open into the cargo hold for access and ventilation.
There is a solid fuel (of course) stove fitted in the middle of the cabin supplying more than enough heat even in the coldest of winters!
The cargo hold is covered by cloths in a traditional manner that have been adapted for easy and quick securing by means of bungee clips. There is enough cargo space area to load 15 ton and an inbuilt 5000 litre retail diesel tank at the bow. There is also a generator and dispensing pump included in the sale. The top of the tank is built in as a tug deck style working platform and can be used for calor gas storage. or display of products.
The BSC is valid until June 2020.
The only thing required to trade is coal and diesel..... We can at your request supply any quantity of these so you are “ready to go”
Even if you are not looking to trade retail fuel “William” is a versatile craft and with her large tanks and cargo hold could be used for a number of uses, maybe you just fancy something really traditional but with out the expense, or maybe you like the idea of a floating workshop or convert the hold to office space, bike repairs, floating bar or tea shop perhaps a gift shop, motor bike storage or even private yard or garden space .. ?
The possibilities are endless and at the end of the day its a 4 year old boat with 4 years of Boat safety for £45K!!
Painted up in a traditional livery William could look quite the part. Obviously she is in current trading livery of yellow and black and just like a wasp the intention is to be seen!!
As a business opportunity you will not find a better purpose built craft for less, whatever your floating business may be.
